Boomtown by Dusted Valley offers varietal specific wines with one goal - to over deliver. In 2003, Wisconsin natives Chad Johnson and Corey Braunel left the comforts of their corporate jobs to move to Walla Walla and fulfill their dream of crafting world-class wine. Combining Washington State grapes with their rough and tumble know-how and a sizeable piece of their souls, the family created Dusted Valley and Boomtown.

A nod to the Dusted Valley family’s unquenchable thirst for adventure, Boomtown is crafted for all of those unafraid to step out and leave their comfort zones. Boomtown by Dusted Valley allows our family the opportunity to share a fantastic Dusted Valley wine with a larger audience. Winemakers, Chad Johnson and Corey Braunel, control the process from vineyard to bottle and source 100% of the fruit from Columbia Valley in Washington State.

At roughly 20,000 cases, Boomtown is available through fine restaurants and wine retailers throughout the country with current offerings include Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.

DESCRIPTION: Stylistically you are going to experience a lot of similarities with our Dusted Valley wines and taste some of those classic Washington State hallmarks such as fresh fruit and minerality.

It’s a delicious, fruity and crisp version of this Burgundian grape. The stainless steel production brings aromas and flavors of pineapple, Uncola and jasmine with tangy tartness and a finish of lemon meringue pie.

DESCRIPTION: Stylistically you are going to experience a lot of similarities with our Dusted Valley wines and taste some of those classic Washington State hallmarks such as fresh fruit and minerality.siologically ripe with prominent varietal flavors but still firm.

GRAPE VARIETY: 100% Chardonnay

Appellation:     Washington State, Columbia Valley

Technical:     Alcohol: 12.9%, TA: 6, pH: 3.5

Oak Program:  59% fermented and aged in neutral oak barrels, 41% stainless steel. The barrel portion went through full malolactic fermentation. Lees sirring for four months.

2015 Press: This Walla Walla Valley winery continues to provide quality and affordability within its Boomtown brand, a 20,000-case collaboration with the Wahluke Wine Co. Neutral barrel fermentation made up 59% of the program, which included full ML and aging on the lees for four months. The rest is pure steel, and that combination develops aromas of starfruit, pineapple and Key Lime with hints of powdered sugar and crushed hazelnuts. On the palate, it is balanced, nutty and fruity with Bosc pear, dried apricot and green banana flavors. For the second straight vintage, this Chardonnay has earned our top rating. Suggested pairings include Mussels and Spanish Chorizo, a recipe from Savor chef Janis Frey..

Wine of the week: 2014 Dusted Valley "Boomtown"

“Cabernet is king” is one of the oft-repeated phrases in the wine world. Unfortunately, it often takes princely-plus funds to buy good cabernet. So when a $15 gem such as the 2014 Dusted Valley “Boomtown” Washington state cabernet sauvignon comes along, it’s cause for rejoicing. Made by winery owners and Wisconsin natives Chad Johnson and Corey Braunel, this rustic but smooth red coats the palate with layers of ripe red fruit and edgy but smooth tannins, leading to a hearty and lengthy finish. This is a seriously versatile wine for the table, excelling with grilled burgers and brats (must be the Wisconsin connection) as well as autumnal soups and roasted meat, fowl or veggies. - Bill Ward

Walla Walla winemakers Chad Johnson, Corey Braunel and Griffin Frey team up with the Wahluke Wine Co., for another solid example of Merlot under the sister brand for acclaimed Dusted Valley Vintners. Dark purple tones of blueberry, black cherry and pomegranate are joined by aromatic hints of lavender, brown sugar and chalkboard dust. On the pour, there’s brightness that leads with pomegranate, backed by Montmorency cherry and Craisin skins amid enjoyable tannins and a pleasing finish framed by the addition of Cabernet Sauvignon (9%) and Petit Verdot (3%). Enjoy with robust beef dishes, and like all Dusted Valley wines, this is safeguarded by a screwcap.

TASTING NOTES: Washington State Syrah has it going on. The Boomtown Syrah has classic notes of blueberry, juicy black raspberry along with subtle hints of herbs de Provence. To sum it up; new world fruit meets old world complexity.

Great Northwest Wines - Outstanding!
One of Washington state’s most consistently outstanding examples of Syrah — regardless of the price — is Boomtown by Dusted Valley Vintners. This latest release marked the debut vintage of Griffin Frey, whose oversight for brothers-in-law Corey Braunel and Chad Johnson involves the continued collaboration on this brand with Wahluke Wine Company. Gorgeous aromas of blueberry, black cherry and sweet oak include complex touches of earth, straw and bramble. It’s downright yummy, leading with flavors of Triple Berry Pie. Pomegranate acidity stays just ahead of the black currant skin tannins, providing delicious balance and revealing itself as a cool-climate Syrah. This is the fourth consecutive vintage for the Boomtown Syrah merited our highest rating. And fortunately, they’ve nearly tripled production since 2011.
