Traditionally the world's most critically acclaimed winemaking country, France boasts the world's largest wine production and the second-largest total vineyard area, and is also the source of many of the world's most popular grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The French concept of "terroir" links the style of wines with a specific geographic location where the grapes are grown.
