Weingut Dr. Fischer
Winemaker Nik Weis from Wine Estate St. Urbans-Hof on the Mosel and Martin Foradori Hofstätter from Wine Estate J. Hofstätter in South Tyrol seized the welcome opportunity to participate in a joint ownership with Johannes Fischer of the historic Weingut Dr. Fischer.
The estate in Ockfen on the Saar River is famed for its Riesling and is a founding member of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP).
“In the greatest vintages, the best Mosel wine comes from the Saar,”
- is a regional vintner saying.
VDP – VERBAND DEUTSCHER PRÄDIKATSWEINGÜTER
The Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates, abbreviated VDP) was established in 1910 and today includes approximately 200 leading German wine estates. This prestigious association’s logo and emblem of quality, a stylized eagle bearing a cluster of grapes, is embossed on wine bottle capsules. The Weingut Dr. Fisher is a founding member of this association. The VDP classification is not a part of German wine law, but a regulation set under private law for members of the VDP. These standards define the quality of wine according to terroir recognising the unanimity of a wine’s origin and its quality.
The four classifications are
- VDP.GROSSE LAGE,
- VDP.ERSTE LAGE,
