100 POINTS!
Joseph Drouhin, Montrachet
Marquis de Laguiche Grand Cru 2004
($540, Dreyfus Ashby)
This parcel of Le Montrachet is managed and vinified
by the house of Joseph Drouhin. It would be safe to
say it's the brightest star in Drouhin's impressive
portfolio, and one of the greatest white wines in
the world. The '04 vintage was exceptional for whites
in the Cotes de Beaune, and the proof is in the bottle.
This grand cru is tight and muscular at this stage,
exhibiting remarkable depth and complexity (exhibiting
nuances of honey, almond, anise, brioche, pear and
exotic spices) with powerful backbone. It's a wine
for the ages, and should be cellared as if it were
a red wine. Don't even think about going near it for
another 10 years or more. The suggested retail is
a whopping price to pay, but I have found this wine
on the internet (you might Google Joseph Drouhin Montrachet)
for less tha $400.

BORDEAUX
Château Pétrus
Pomerol To wine connoisseurs, no other
word evokes feelings of awe and wonderment: an iconic
wine known by many, tasted by few. Despite vain efforts
by new kids on the block; the Californian cult cabernets
and some of the garagistes that
equate scarcity with quality; it remains the vinous
Holy Grail. - Neal Martin
BORDEAUX Château Latour
à Pomerol On the Pomerol plateau, the
vines are planted on the gravel terroir of a sunny
hilltop and on the clay land around the chateau. Merlot
is the predominant variety with 80%. Jean-Pierre Moueix
is the tenant wine-grower and Jean-Claude Berrouet
the oenologist, hence the certain similarity with
Petrus.
BORDEAUX Château Plince
Pomerol Château Plince forms part
of the properties of Pomerol where modernity melds
with tradition. This chateau, in the family since
more than one century, keeps its authenticity while
benefitting from technical progress, while constantly
striving for quality.Château Plince is known
and recognized today by amateurs and professionals
as the wine from Pomerol of great quality.
BORDEAUX Château Siaurac
Lalande-de-Pomerol “These wines really are
superbly fine and elegant. They mirror perfectly the
subtlety of their terroirs. One has to mention that
the wine-maker, Yannick Reyrel, has worked alongside
Jean-Claude Berrouet, the man behind Petrus. He has
a fabulous ability to step back and let the wine take
the limelight, whilst ensuring rigorous attention
to detail in all the work done in the vineyard.”
- L’AMATEUR DE BORDEAUX, March 2005.
Pascal Delbeck has been in charge
of the property for more than 20 years now. Pascal
has made a name for himself as the staunch standard
bearer for quality and tradition. Belair's incomparable
soil and long history are telltale signs that this
is indeed a great Bordeaux wine château.
