J. Hofstätter

J. Hofstätter • Alto Adige • Italy

Founded by Joseph Hofstätter a century ago, the estate comprises extensive vineyards with five historic manor houses located on either sides of the Adige Valley. The most important of these is Barthenau, home of the famous Vigna S. Urbano Pinot Nero- a result of Paolo Foradori’s recognition of the estate’s potential for world-class Pinot Noir.

Today, Joseph’s grand nephew, Martin Foradori-Hofstätter passionately maintains a delicate balance between tradition and innovation, producing wines of exceptional character and typicity.

J. Hofstätter is a great choice for those seeking quality value wines from Alto Adige” - The Wine Advocate - November 2014

Joseph Gewürztraminer DOC Alto Adige

BSN-Gewurtztraminer

J. Hofstatter Joseph Gewürztraminer DOC Alto Adige

J. Hofstatter Joseph Gewürztraminer DOC Alto Adige

DESCRIPTION: The grapes are lightly crushed and the juice is cold macerated for a few hours together with the skins. The mass is then pressed, the must is clarified by natural sedimentation and fermentation takes place at a constant temperature of 20°C. All these procedures combine to exalt the typical varietal character of the wine.

GRAPE VARIETY: 100% Gewürztraminer

FOOD PAIRINGS: On its own as an aperitif, with shellfish, goose liver and gorgonzola cheese.

TASTING NOTES: This is a highly individual wine and a copybook Gewürztraminer: full, bright straw yellow, concentrated with a strong aromatic character reminiscent of dried flowers and rose petals which develops and intensifies in the glass. Full-bodied, luscious but dry on the palate, the opulence cut by vibrant, firm acidity.

J. Hofstatter Meczan Pinot Nero DOC Alto Adige

 The Single Vineyards

“The word ‘terroir’ is often bandied about, as if it referred to an established factor, while in reality it is subject to the very same fluctuations that the far-sighted winegrower is confronted with in his daily work. He needs to recognise the elementary preconditions necessary for vines to yield superlative, distinctive, unmistakable wines, cultivating, fine-tuning and focusing his methods.” - Martin Foradori Hofstätter.

J. Hofstatter Pinot Bianco Barthenau Vigna San Michele

J. Hofstatter Pinot Bianco Barthenau Vigna San Michele

DESCRIPTION: The grapes used to make this wine are grown around the Barthenau estate at an elevation of 1,476 ft/450 m above sea level.
